3D BDX Iron & Brake Dust Remover 16oz
3D BDX 16oz is an acid-free iron and brake-dust remover for compatible automotive paint and wheels. It reacts with ferrous contamination and turns purple as it works, helping release bonded particles that can remain after a normal wash.
Key benefits
- Targets embedded iron and brake-dust contamination.
- Visible purple reaction during treatment.
- Spray-and-rinse decontamination for compatible paint and wheels.
Choosing and using this product
Use BDX as a targeted decontamination stage before correction or protection, or when wheel cleaning reveals remaining ferrous deposits. Do not use on vinyl, leather tops or mouldings; keep the application controlled around those materials. The 16oz format suits a compact decontamination kit or occasional targeted use.
Application details
Rinse and cool the surface first. 3D’s current guide specifies a 1–2 minute dwell before thorough rinsing. Never allow BDX to dry and rinse sooner if conditions require it. Work in ventilation and away from direct sun.
How to use
- Wash away loose dirt and allow paint, wheels and brakes to cool. Work in shade with ventilation and test an inconspicuous area, particularly on an unfamiliar or refinished wheel.
- Spray evenly onto the intended painted surface or wheel, working in manageable sections. Keep the product away from materials excluded by its label and avoid overspray onto adjacent sensitive trim.
- Allow the product to react for the time specified below. The purple colour indicates a reaction with iron contamination; it is not a signal to leave the product until it dries.
- If needed, gently agitate suitable wheel areas with a soft, dedicated brush. Avoid scrubbing painted panels with wheel tools. Rinse before the cleaner begins to dry, even if the full stated dwell time has not elapsed.
- Rinse very thoroughly with clean water. Check seams and recesses for remaining product, then dry or continue with the next step of your wash and decontamination process.
- Inspect the clean surface before deciding whether further treatment is needed. Follow with clay only where appropriate, then prepare for polishing or protection according to that system’s directions.
Aftercare and maintenance
Use chemical decontamination when the surface needs it rather than treating it as a substitute for routine washing. Keep brake dust under control with regular wheel care and use a gentle shampoo for normal maintenance. After a full decontamination detail, assess the existing protection and renew it as required. Store wheel brushes separately from paint-care tools.
Frequently asked questions
Does purple colour mean the surface was rusty?
The colour change shows a reaction with ferrous contamination such as brake dust or industrial fallout. It does not by itself diagnose rust damage to the underlying panel.
Will it remove tar or every rough spot?
Iron removers target ferrous particles. Tar, sap, mineral deposits and other bonded contamination may need separate products. Inspect the surface before choosing the next treatment.
